Jelastic Welcome Tutorial

Note: This document is based on Jelastic version 4.6.1

Jelastic tutorial is devoted to Platform’s newcomers, for giving them insights on its main distinctions and provided features. It is automatically run on the first user’s sign in, and subsequently can be also called manually at any time through the Help > Show Jelastic tutorial menu option:

Below, we’ll consider:

Brief Tutorial Overview

1. To start with, a short introduction presentation (of just three slides) is shown:
  • the first slide is named The Benefits of DevOps Platform, where a user can check the number of main Jelastic features and advantages.

Hovering over any of them will reveal the corresponding illustration to the right, whilst clicking on an item will open the dedicated documentation page.

Tip: You have the possibility to customize any link for a particular feature description.

  • the second Pricing Advantage of Jelastic Public Cloud slide helps to make out the effectiveness of the proposed by Jelastic “pay-as-you-go” pricing comparing to other cloud vendors’  models.

  • the third and the final, Save Money with Smart Pricing slide, demonstrates how such a distinctive pricing is implemented with a real showcase.

Using the Estimated cost drop-down menu (circled in the image above), it is possible to switch between different time periods for the charges to be calculated for. This helps to reveal the predictable amount of funds, required for hosting of the environment with a standard topology.

2. Once clicking on Next, the second, interactive, tutorial part will be started. It guides a user through several simple steps, required for the first application hosting at the Jelastic Cloud.

The whole tour will take just a couple of minutes, giving a new user knowledge of Jelastic main features and basic environment creation flow, which, in general, are enough to start with the platform usage.

Tutorial Enabling

In order to define whether Jelastic tutorial should be automatically run on the first user login, the following manipulations are required:

1. Enter your JCA panel and navigate to the System Settings > User Interface section. Find and expand the TUTORIAL_ENABLED setting.

Here, you can Add a new value (e.g. for a separate user group) or Edit the default one (applied for all of users)

Note that upon a particular platform’s upgrade to Jelastic 4.6 version, the newly implemented tutorial introductory slides will be also automatically shown for the already existing users when accessing the dashboard the next time (of course, unless other is defined within the current setting).

2. As an example - the tutorial can be disabled for billing users, considering they are already familiar with Jelastic Platform.

Just don’t forget to Apply changes after your configurations are done.

Slides Customization

The welcome presentation can be slightly adjusted in order to match your platform’s branding (e.g. if you need to change the shown platform logo, links or texts it contains). Let’s consider the appropriate options one-by-one.

1. In order to set your company logo to be shown throughout the tutorial:
  • move to the System Settings section and expand jclient parameters (with the Expert mode enabled).

  • find the HOSTER_LOGO_TUTORIAL option and insert the proper path/link to your custom logo (the recommended size is 106x25 px).

  • confirm the changes and click on Apply at the top tools pane to save them

2. As it was shown above, the first presentation slide contains the list of main platform’s advantages, where clicking on any of them will open the corresponding feature overview:

By default, these URLs lead to the Jelastic documentation pages; however, you can substitute the links with your own ones (e.g. placed at your web-site).

In order to accomplish this, perform the following:

3. In addition, you are able to implement your own localization of tutorials’ texts.

For that, the corresponding translation should be included into the general file with dashboard texts and uploaded to the resources’ application of your platform (res.{platform_domain}).
